Christmas break has arrived, and you’re probably looking forward to sleeping later, binge-watching Netflix series, and hanging out with your friends. And there’s certainly nothing wrong with that! But because two to three weeks of complete rest can actually kick off some bad habits, it’s best to keep up with your studying at least a little bit. So, use these five tips to get organized, and you can start off the next semester on the right foot.

Make a plan. We’re not saying you have to write next semester’s term papers over the break, or anything else that is particularly arduous. But do set a few goals and make a schedule to gradually accomplish them over the next few weeks.

Take it slow and steady. There are twenty-four hours in a day… If you spend one hour reading or studying for college entrance exams, you will make significant progress throughout winter break. The best part is, you won’t feel unreasonably burdened by a small daily task.

Get out of the house. The holidays can be a busy and stressful time at home, making it difficult for you to concentrate. Head to the library or your favorite coffee shop for your scheduled reading or study time.

Make the most of travel time. If you’ll be stuck on a long car ride to Grandma’s house, or waiting at airport terminals for your connecting flight, you might as well put that time to good use. Bring your study materials while traveling. You can set them aside and enjoy time with family or friends when you reach your destination.

Get back into your normal routine. If you’ve been sleeping until noon every day over winter break, the first day back at school will come, literally, as a rude awakening. Remember to transition back to a regular sleeping schedule several days in advance of the semester’s beginning.
