Over the next several months, high school seniors will be applying to numerous colleges in hopes of being accepted so they can further their knowledge at an institution of higher learning. So, over the next few weeks, we will be informing you of numerous of California universities and colleges, according to college guru Allen Grove, that rank at the top of the state.
Here is the first part of the list, in alphabetical order.
1. California Institute of Technology (Cal Tech)
Located in Pasadena, California, Cal Tech has an enrollment of under 1,000 undergraduates and is one of the nation’s best engineering schools as well as one of the nation’s most selective colleges. The student to faculty ratio is an amazing 3:1.
2. Chapman University
Chapman is a private university located in Orange, California and has 5,300 undergraduates. It has a 14:1 student/faculty ratio with an average class size of 23. It is known for its strong professional fields such as business and communications, but has a liberal arts flavor.
3. Claremont McKenna College
Located in Claremont, California, it is a private liberal arts college that has 1,300 undergraduates. It is known as one of the most selective colleges in the country. It is also a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa for its strengths in the liberal arts and sciences. The student/faculty ratio is 9:1.
4. Harvey Mudd College
Harvey Mudd College is also located in Claremont, California and is an undergraduate engineering college. It has 784 undergraduates and is known as one of the top undergraduate engineering colleges. The engineering curriculum is focused on the humanities and social sciences, with many hands-on learning opportunities. It has a 9:1 student/faculty ratio.
5. Loyola Marymount University
Located in Los Angeles, California, LMU is the largest private Catholic university on the West Coast with 6,000 undergraduates. It is known for its attractive 150 acre campus and has 144 clubs and organizations. The student/faculty ratio is 13:1 and the average class size is 18.
6. Occidental College
Occidental is located in Los Angeles, California and is a private liberal arts college with 2,125 undergraduates. It is a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa for its strengths in the liberal arts and sciences. The average class size is 16 and it has a 10:1 student/faculty ratio.
7. Pepperdine University
Located in beautiful Malibu, California, Pepperdine is a private Christian university that has about 3,500 undergraduates. It overlooks the Pacific Ocean and is an 830 acre campus. It is known for its strong undergraduate business major and also has international campuses in six countries. Pepperdine has a 13:1 student/faculty ratio.
