Now that winter break is coming to a close, it’s time to dive into Spring semester. If you haven’t already set your goals, we suggest you consider the following ideas.

Earn a 4.0 GPA. It’s always better to aim for the top, and incremental goals work best. Reaching a 4.0 this semester could pull up your overall GPA.

Vow to stay ahead. Staying on schedule is admirable; the most successful students stay a bit ahead of schedule. Schedule your long-term tasks, like papers and projects, so that they’re completed a few days before the due date. That way, if something like an illness or emergency comes up, compensating for missed time won’t be so stressful.

Make a plan to tackle stress daily. Set a goal for one thing that you can do for yourself, each day, that will lower your stress level.

Establish a regular study date. Devote Sunday afternoons to library time, for example. Or grab coffee with a friend each Thursday, to quiz one another for end-of-week tests.

Tour your top choice schools. If you haven’t already, now is the time to schedule tours for your top two or three colleges. Spring break provides the perfect opportunity, if travel will be required. You can also contact each school and ask about special events for prospective students on weekends.

Save money. If you babysit, work a part-time job, or earn an allowance, set a savings goal for the semester. This is money you’ll be glad to have during your first semester at college.

Make a plan to feed your brain. Healthier foods help us to thrive not only physically, but mentally as well. Make a plan to eat healthier meals this semester, by packing your own lunches or exploring cafeteria options.

Work on testing and writing skills. If you’ll be taking the SAT or ACT again, or writing entrance essays for college applications, devote one afternoon per week to test prep or a writing workshop. Even if you don’t plan to take standardized tests again, or need to write essays, these skills will become invaluable in college.
