We have some good news for you early birds: The College Board has announced a new summer date for administration of the SAT! You can now take the SAT on August 26 of this year, and the test will continue to be offered each August for the conceivable future.

This is great news for students for a number of reasons:

First and foremost, it gives you a jump start on college planning. The August test date is a terrific option for those of you with busy fall schedules. Summer break allows you the time to work on your testing skills and take practice exams before you begin the busy school year. If you get your first test out of the way on August 26, you have plenty of time to retest again in October or November and if you do, you will feel more comfortable with the procedure and have a better idea of what to study in preparation for your second test date.

If you are a fall athlete, it can be difficult to manage classroom studies, sports practice and games, and studying for the SAT.  Often students are tired from a long week of school and sports prior to taking the test on a Saturday morning during the middle of the semester.  While we understand you will have likely started school by August 26th, you’ll only be a couple weeks into the semester and still be somewhat “fresh”.

Finally, there’s one more reason to consider the August 26 test date. If, for some reason, you aren’t satisfied with your score, you still have plenty of time to improve your score in October or November. You won’t get in a rush trying to increase your score at the last minute, and you’ll still have plenty of time to apply for college admissions and various scholarships.  Since we always recommend taking the SAT as a Junior, the August date gives you a huge head start.
