The school year is about to begin, and it’s time to get organized. You could certainly do it the old-fashioned, pen-and-paper way, but using smartphone apps can be a lot more motivating. Plus they’re fun! You have a lot going on this year, from focusing on your studies to researching colleges, to taking entrance exams and filling out applications. Don’t let anything slip your mind. Give these apps a try, and start off the school year on the right foot.

Organize your academics. Keeping your grades up should be a top priority. Apps like Wolfram/Alpha can help you improve math skills, while Khan Academy offers help in just about any subject. Quizlet helps you create flash cards to study for tests, and the new Quizlet Learn feature helps you organize deadlines and create study plans.

If you want to form a study group, get assigned to a group project, or just need to share work with your parents so they can help you, try ShareIt. You can share files at 200 times Bluetooth speed, without worrying about your data limits.

If you’d prefer digital copies of reading assignments over hard copies, consider a library or digital book app. These definitely come in handy, because you can access your reading materials anywhere you carry your phone, without weighing down your backpack.

Planning for college. A number of college planning apps exist, to help you ease your transition from high school to college. Try one or two of them, to decide which is the best fit. While you’re at it, check out this guide from EnGadget . It lists all the best tech devices for college students, and gives you a rundown on each.

Balance your life. Academics, college entrance testing, and visiting universities will keep you busy. But don’t forget that well-rounded students are happy students, and take a break once in a while to prevent burnout. As you take the steps to get organized, check out a fitness app to motivate you to exercise. And, keep in mind that apps for things like yoga and meditation exist, too. Take the time to balance your life, because this is a valuable skill you will need all of your life.
